According to Time Magazine, one in four adults worldwide don’t get enough exercise putting an estimate of 1.4 billion people at the risk of developing diseases linked to inactivity. That my friends results in an insane amount of people dying just because they were unable to take adequate measures in their lifestyle affecting both their personal and professional lives.
I don’t know if you all are aware, however, an interesting thing happened In 2018, IG Punjab of that time, issued a new order for all the fat belly police officers to increase their physical activity/ exercise along with a healthy diet with the aim to be more fit. With an emphasis on the fact that if they fail to do so, they will end up even losing their jobs. And why not? These officers are there to protect us, how can you expect them to chase those goons with that amount of fat they are carrying with them. Usually, when I am travelling out of Pakistan, I always admire how their officers are so fit and fine. Their governments and various institutions place a lot of emphasis on fitness. That is exactly what we need to adopt.
Just even look at our diet. We love oily food. Whether its paye made by your beloved grandmother or nihari by your mother. Or karahi from the famous butt karahi with those mouthwatering naans, ending with the delightful gulabjamnans and let’s not forget those jalebi swimming in that pool of oil. We are a crazy bunch of food lovers who will end up dying too soon if we don’t add any physical activity or exercise in our routine with it.
Just for a moment think of our routine. We wake up, have breakfast. Sit in our cars to reach for office and have a 9-5 routine desk job, some probably may do late sittings. We come back home, have dinner and sleep. And this cycle goes on. Now there is absolutely no physical activity as such as exercise or walk in our lifestyles. And the lesser exercise or activity, you will become more deconditioned. Your muscles weaken and they will lose bulk including the muscles you need for breathing and the large muscles in your legs and arms. You will become more breathless as you do less activity. An amazing article by NHS was titled lack of exercise as deadly as smoking. The researchers shared how physical inactivity can lead to depression, high blood pressure, heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancer. Stroke and ultimately leading to death. Since a large portion of the world population is inactive this is a major public health issue. Save yourself my people; just move it.
Recently, there was a workshop at Marriott and I asked all the participants with me that what is that one thing that they really want a part of their lifestyle. They all said they would love to add some sports or some physical activity however they don’t have time for it. And I just respond back as saying if you can’t take 15-20 minutes out of your day for yourself you don’t have a life. You might call it life, or whatever you want but it is not. So, 3 points to remember
See, the whole idea is to use those muscles. Usually, whenever we achieve a milestone, people are like we want a treat. ask them to join you for a walk at a local park. Seriously no kidding This will save you financially on your pocket while keeping you mentally and physically fit. WHO recommends atleast 150 minutes of exercise/ week, which is approx. 20/21 minutes every day.
Imagine after that exercise there is this energy and vitality that will show up in your relationships, in your job, in your business, and in your life. Even a café nearby my place is giving their staff free access to the gym nearby. What is your excuse?
I am sure you don’t want to be the richest man in the graveyard. I want you all to commit to yourself that from today onwards you are going to take out time for exercise, time for yourself and for your better healthy future.
That is why I propose to you all today. Lets not make leaders only, let’s make fitter and healthier leaders.
