“Khala where is the celebration”? My 8-year-old nephew rushed inside and frantically exclaimed!!
I raised my eyebrows, looked at him & said ‘a celebration! What for???
DUHH!! KHALA YOU GOT A JOB!!! LETS GOO! I WANT ICECREAM, LETS ORDER PIZZA, OH LETS GO TO DOLMEN MALL’S SINDBAD, I want to sit on all the new rides!
Turns out, his grandfather had told him on call that khala got her job today and so he was way too excited!
When was the last time you got excited? or you were genuinely very happy and joyful? I am assuming for all the married people here, the last excitement or joy in your life must be when you had your first baby or you went on your solo trip? And for all the single ones, it must be when you found your amazing fiancé until you got married.
So look, My 8-year-old nephew is such an amazing soul! He is inquisitive, he’s funny, he’s joyful and He is full of life. This little boy is a genius! Though I have learned a lot of things from him, most of all I have learned life from this little human being.
He has taught me to find reasons to celebrate little things in life. To get excited about the things happening around us. I mean at 8 years old, what do you know about career, about work-life, or maybe life in general too. To me, it was just like switching one job to another. It was merely I was working for XYZ and now I am working for ABC. What’s the big deal. Right!
However, this little person in our family was over the moon! Jumping on my bed, ruining my bedsheet all over the place and screaming excitedly.
Like dude! Get a life! Relax! Okay, it’s done get over it. I mean that’s how we adults are right!
You know when children finish school all they want to do is play! Where did we lose that self-rewarding attitude? Did we grow up? Does growing up means that we stop appreciating the little things around us? Does growing up means that we stop paying gratitude for the joys in our life? Is celebration restricted only for birthdays and anniversaries? Is this what we want to teach our kids? Or have we lost the essence of life and it is time for us to learn from the little ones now. Because, If this is growing up then I want to remain a child forever.
You see, children have a wonderful ability to see joy & fun around them, and a greater ability to value humor & laugh at themselves! After all, laughter is the best medicine! It relieves stress, improves our immune system and can trigger endorphins!!
When we as adults allow ourselves to celebrate the flowers coming into bloom, the sun shining on our gardens or even when a child is born, we are essentially expressing how grateful we are for the wonders found in nature. In a nutshell, when we celebrate it merely means we are grateful for the things we have. According to research done by Harvard University, In one study, they asked all participants to write a few sentences each week, focusing on particular topics. One group wrote about things they were grateful for that had occurred during the week. A second group wrote about daily irritations or things that had displeased them, and the third wrote about events that had affected them (with no emphasis on them being positive or negative). After 10 weeks, what they found out was shocking. Those who wrote about gratitude were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Surprisingly, they also exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians.
Any celebration, big or small, is really about taking a beat to notice the good stuff in our life. It can also be a reminder of our talents and abilities, skills and persistence. Drawing on those things can motivate us to keep working toward our goals, to keep achieving our dreams.
Turns out! This little monster did not settle for any chocolates that I planned to bribe him for. That night was full of celebrations! It was pizza, party, and lots of crazy rides at Sindbad, happy faces and then there was ME (with the poker face). I feel sometimes in life we tend to get so busy in things that don’t matter that we fail to realize the greater important things which should always have been our focal point.
Be it achieving a minor milestone in our life, or our loved ones. It could be gaining a victory, or even having a breakup could be a reason to start afresh, we all should go out celebrate it in a way that we like to. May be dinners, or a coffee!? The whole idea itself is to enjoy each & every moment of your life and damn us, we should get some excitement in our life!!
Well done Uroosa!!!! So right we don’t value our happy moments until they are gone….
